Riverside is the county seat of Riverside, California. It is located in the “Inland Empire” which encompasses all cities in Riverside County and Bernardino County, about 60 sixty miles east of Los Angeles. It is the 59th most populated city in the U.S., and the 12th in the state of California. There are approximately 305,000 residents of Riverside.

Originally inhabited by the Calhuilla and Serrano native American tribes, settlers began claiming land in Riverside in the 1860s. Riverside took off when it was realized that navel oranges grew amazingly well there. Explosive growth was inevitable after the establishment of the citrus industry, which is commemorated in the landscapes and exhibits of the California Citrus State Historic Park and the restored packing houses in the downtown’s Marketplace district. By 1882, there were more than half a million citrus trees in California, almost half of which were in Riverside. The development of refrigerated railroad cars and innovative irrigation systems established Riverside as the richest city in the United States by 1895.

Around this time the now-famous Mission Inn motel was built, and quickly became a favorite place for U.S. presidents and starlets to stay in California. There was even a specially-built chair for the infamously large President Taft within the motel. Other notable landmarks include the Riverside Fox Theater, which has been maintained and expanded over the years to stay current; the “world’s largest paper cup,” the Dixie Cup; the Beaux-Arts style Riverside County Historic Courthouse based on the Petit Palais in Paris; and the March Joint Air Reserve Base, which is the oldest air force base west of the Mississippi in the United States. The University of California-Riverside is also located within city limits.

Riverside remains a hit vacation destination spot for its warm summer weather, beautiful swimming pools, lush scenery, and mission-style architecture. Its climate is semi-arid, meaning it has hot, dry summers and relatively mild, wet winters.

The Riverside Superior County Court is located at Riverside County Court House, 4050 Main St, Riverside, CA 92501.
